mgp news: spar's outreach to host communities

With stores in over 41 countries worldwide, 11 of which are in Africa, and seven in Nigeria, SPAR has always had a vision for investing in the lives of the people who live and work in SPAR communities.

Such outreach is common practice for SPAR stores.

“Spar is a family business and Nigeria gave our family the opportunity to develop the company and to develop ourselves in the process. It is vital to give back to Nigeria as a whole and specifically to our local communities. We want our SPAR brand to just continue to do bigger and better things for the livelihood of our customers and for Nigerians in general.” - Karan Keswani, General Manager

Recently, Spar put smiles on the beautiful faces of Learners, Teachers and Caregivers at Radiant Achievers Schools Jakande, Lekki. It was a day of community outreach that engaged actual SPAR shoppers who volunteered to spend a day at the school; providing the school with a nutritional surprise package of Freshly baked loaves of bread, butter, fruits, juices and water. The Children were also treated to fun work out sections by a fitness Instructor.

As SPAR expands operation in Nigeria, it also strives to heighten its interaction with its host community. Corporate Social Responsibility is paramount in building and maintaining stakeholder trust from the beginning of a company’s presence in the community. It strengthens consumer-client relationships and helps ensure long term success for both the business and its host community. SPAR has long recognized that investing in customers beyond the store doors is a key to investing in both its own, and in the local community’s future. Adding value beyond limits remains Spar and Artee Group’s stance, even in the face of industrial challenges that may have inhibited other brands.

mgp news: 35-yr-old Nigerian arrested for raping 15-yr-old girl in Vietnam

A 35-year-old Nigerian man, Emmanuel Emeka Ewuzie, has been arrested by the police in Binh Duong Province in Southern Vietnam, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, reports Than Nien News.

According to the report, Ewuzie who went to the Asian country in 2008 and has been working in a factory in the neighboring Ho Chi Minh City, reportedly lured the girl into his room on Saturday, October 3, where he flirted with her and asked for her phone number.

Later that day, he sent her a text, asking her to come to his room, where he had sex with her, investigators said.

After the girl went back home, her mother found text on her phone and asked her what happened with the Nigerian man and when she confessed to her mother, she reported the case to the police.

Though the accused told the police that he did not rape the girl as the sex was consensual, the police say he would be charged to court because going by Vietnam’s Penal Code, having sex with a minor (a girl below 16), is seen as rape and one can be sentenced to 15 years in jail. The sentence can be longer if the action causes pregnancy or significant health damage.

mgp news: Why we have been together for twelve years –midnight crew

They were actually eleven in number when they started in 2011 but the quartet of Michael Abdul, Odunayo Ojo Onasanya, Pat Uwaje King and Gbenga Oyebola, known simply as the Midnight Crew have kept their wits about them for nothing else but for the love of what they do and enjoy doing.  In this revealing interview, which they take turn to respond, they open up on their careers, their dreams and why they have stuck together for that long. Excerpts:

How has the journey been this last twelve years?

It’s not been very easy but we made up our mind to go all the way as long as God stands by us . The very funny thing is that, we see very far.
Have you guys ever had  issues or moments of friction,  where you quarrel?

Yes, we do have those times. But the good thing is that we are friends, first of all, and we have realized we all need each other in our lives. And no matter the differences, we just have to reconcile. There is nothing that is irreconcilable.  And we try to hear ourselves out and then we put ourselves in each others’ shoes.
How did you guys compose that song ‘Igwe’?

‘Igwe’ came from God. It is a song that God gave to us and it is evident in the way that it was received. As a matter of fact, we did that song and then we just traveled out.
